I loved LEGENDS, British series, about a true undercover op to stop heroin coming in to Britain a couple decades ago. Based on a book. Mesmerizing.

Where can I stream that? Sounds great!

Yes, having been D'x with lymphoma 8 years ago (and writing a book about it, Rewriting Illness: A View of My Own), I have spent a lot of time in the places you've been (literal, medical, psychological). When I was dealing with all of this, I mostly wanted to talk to other people who'd had cancer--who'd survived, because if they did, maybe I would too--and since then spend a lot of time talking to people (many on social media) who are dealing with it.. All of this is to say thank you for sharing this because so many of us are going through it and have been through it -- and survived -- and I think stories of what we've been through can be very useful to others. AND -- I'm just very very very happy for you -- that latest test is only one anyone would ever want... If you haven't watched The Morning Show on Apple TV yet, it is amazing--hard-hitting post #MeToo story of a TV network that just fired its most popular morning news guy for sexual misconduct.

Thank you, Elizabeth.

The Detectorists, so good. Enjoyed your presentation at the Santa Fe International Literary Festival a few weeks ago, also our brief conversation at the book table. I'm about halfway through Joyride...and enjoying the ride.

However...$155 for cotton pants? No way, not ever.

Carry on and good wishes.

First of all, am thrilled for your medical gold star! May they keep coming! As for shows: Riot Women, Apple plus Friends and Neighbors, The Split (anything with Nicola Walker is brilliant). Please tell me you’ve seen Hacks. If not stop everything and do watch it. Have a good flight and a productive trip. ♥️

Susan Orlean's avatar

The Split is new to me (and I adore Nicola Walker!!). Seen much of Hacks but can finish that on the flight! Will look at your other suggestions! Xx

PS Nicola is in a new show called Alice and Steve. It’s getting great reviews. I just started it today and am enjoying it so far. 🥰

I enthusiastically second The Split !

I’m reading London Falling too. Isn’t it great? I hate that cliche about truth being stranger than fiction, but Come On!

As a palate cleanser, I’m also reading David Sedaris’ new book, which I love. It’s nice to bounce between these two.

PS I'm in remission also - rare bone marrow failure disorder, diagnosed in 2015. Changed my life, I've never been happier, and every six months when I see my hematologist, my blood pressure is through the roof. So, I sure do hear what you're saying. I am also jealous of your on/off switch.

Yay on your 6 month 'ok.' Enjoy London!

That was a moving post. So clear-minded and direct. Waiting on test results can feel like an eternity. The mind races to the darkest corners. On a completely different note, will your Nat Geo piece on Sheldrick be running soon? Thank you.

Susan Orlean's avatar

Thank you, Monica! I don’t have a pub date for the NatGeo piece yet but I’ll post it when I do!

This makes me happy!

I’m glad you’re doing okay Susan. I’ve been thinking so much about dreaming and subliminal thoughts/reactions lately. I’ve started painting my dreams (digitally) first thing in the morning to see if I can unearth anything. For a show I highly recommend the series FOREVER which is based (loosely) on Judy Blume’s book by the same name.

Susan Orlean's avatar

I love the idea of painting dreams!! Xx

Susan, I’m so glad you got good results from the doc and get to “live your life” — because what a life it is! xo

A pleasure to read this, and I’m glad you’re well. Show rec: The Audacity on AMC. It’s gotten very little attention but it’s very good.

Susan Orlean's avatar

I was interested in it—I’ll definitely check it out.

Staying in Islington this week and am halfway through "London Falling" as well. It does make one think that *every* nightclub here is run by mobsters with assumed names and no fear of the police.

Because they probably are!!
