I came across Jill's 1990 debut when I was reviewing LPs for alt-weeklies, and we've been big fans ever since. We saw her perform any number of times over the years, most recently in her F*CK 7TH GRADE musical. Never occurred to us that there might be a time when we didn't have a Jill show on our calendar. Just devastating.

I compiled a quick Spotify playlist for anyone who hasn't heard her beyond "I Kissed a Girl": https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1AIuQpeJDVPbez4786FO1C?si=eb10c609d4ad4734

Hi Susan, I’m so sorry for your loss & I send you & Jills family, friends & everyone that Jill has shined her light on my deepest sympathies also much love as well.

I know that this is the type of message that you’re receiving from so many other friends,

family members & other people in you life that you know & I don’t even know you, but one thing that I do know for sure is that feeling of the loss that you’ve inside of you because of the loss of Jill a very special friend to you or you wouldn’t have posted it. I’ve experienced my first loss of a very special person that was like an older brother & best friend, seriously more than my brother he was to me & I do believe that he was the best friend that I’ve ever had in my life to this day & that was 25 years ago now since I lost him in 2000. I’ve had other losses before him & also after him, not too many before him but I did loose alot of friends at a young age, but as the song says and I do believe

“ Only The Good Die Young “

& in a strange way they do. I know that I’m a good person inside my heart & I don’t keep grudges as it’s not good & everyone tells me I’m a good person. I might look like a wild man with multiple piercings & tattoos, but you should never judge a book by its cover. I’ve lost way too many other friends as well after my best friends passing so I definitely know how bad you feel inside. While everything around you in our world we live in daily keeps moving non stop going a

million miles an hour forward I do know that at this time you’re at a standstill in your life at this horrific moment of time & it’s so crazy how our universe works.

Well , Susan I’m truly sorry as I can tell by the photo of Jill that you’ve posted that she has touched many people lives in a positive way & I’m sure you’ve plenty of friends & family members that are by your side at this time for you to grieve with & talk with, but if you ever want to talk to someone you can talk to me a stranger that will listen & not judge, believe me whatever you need to say & you just need to let all out and you need someone to talk to you can talk to me anytime. I’m up all times of the night as I’ve alway made my own hours since I’ve been out of high school like know it’s 4:30 am & I’m ready to shave & shower & go to the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood Florida to use my free money that they give me almost every other day that must be used by 6:59 am then at 7:00 am they give me more free money to spend & if I don’t go I loose it so I go because you never know if one day I hit the jackpot so I do go as it’s only a 20 minute drive.

I thing I do know is at this time I know it’s hard, but you must try to stay strong & keep your head up as high as possible. I know it’s a loco life we live & a crazy world we live in & things happen for a reason as we will never know why it’s happening to them we think to ourselves & not us it’s just nuts. I’m sorry for your loss!

Much love to you & all of Jill’s

family & friends again,

LL

I'm so sorry--to lose a friend shakes us badly; to lose a friend in tragic circumstances is shattering. My deepest condolences, dear Susan. Your lovely words about her make her live to those who didn't know her as you did, and what is immortality but the memory of one that lives on in the hearts (and words) of another. May her memory be a blessing.

Jill played with John Doe at a tiny venue in Des Moines maybe 15 years ago and it was my strangest concert experience. She starred right at me while she sang. I thought I was imagining it, but my friends noticed too and after the concert, she walked over and gave me a big hug. Never knew what was going on and didn’t need to. We just connected. Such sad news.

what a perfect portrait of her. she lit up uncabaret stages periodically and she turned everywhere she played into a living room - in the true sense of the word a LIVING ROOM - no wonder she loved them as a venue. a heartbreaker of a loss, sending love,
