I think the $ spent on something cool translates into a feeling if fabulousness when out and about, even if the item is nondescript…. I calculate value in terms of visits to the shrink at $300+ a pop. Nice jeans and a shrink visit are more or less at parity and both give good value for the money.

At least your laptop is 100 percent deductible. I think the Apple guy gave you good advice and you will be very happy with the Macbook Air!!

I feel so seen LOL! I have the Apple tab open as well as the SSENSE tab where I've been contemplating shoes that cost way more than I usually spend considering how hard I am on anything I put on my giant feet! For the record I think I've landed on the 15" Air in Starlight- just need to figure out what storage capacity! As for the shoes, not going to close the tab just yet... Thanks for this- thoroughly enjoyed reading!

2T… once I selected 2T the first time, I can’t do less even though I’m not anywhere near 2T…

Book is Carpenteria, world’s safest beach/town is Carpinteria. Completely understand the Mac v Sacai top dilemma. My dilemma centers on exquisite yarn v anything else.

Ah, good catch! Thanks -- just corrected.

You have totally analysed the riddle of why we resist spending on that sensible, practical thing and regret it when we do even though it will benefit our life but lightheartedly spend twice as much on something "unnecessary" except maybe the "luxuries" of life are the real necessities. Two 19th C authors Oscar Wilde, and Robert Louis Stevenson said something along those lines. It's not clothes with me,it's rose bushes, how can I choose between Queen of Denmark,Falstaff,Constance Spry,American Beauty,Charles de Mills,Madame Isaac Pereire. I wish I could buy them all.

It's the math games we play in our head. Not "girl math" just the emotions we put to money and what feels expensive and what doesn't. I feel that so much now with experiences too (concert tickets, vacation - making memories) or clothing that feels so special and not like it will fall apart once I actually wear it.

Hi, I fully intended to comment on the wedding dress, but I will come back. Because I just watched the trailer for Little Wings. And oh my gosh Susan, how fabulous and exciting this is for you, and us! This movie looks absolutely adorable. What a hopeful film! And that it took 13 years to come alive on the screen makes it that much more special. Brooklyn Prince and Che Trefari — what magic and energy. I want to hug them! And Kelly Reilly and Brian Cox, two of my favorite actors. Splendid! Brava!

I resisted the Marfa (infinite add-ons available! Fur collar! Rain hood! Reversible body!) collection through countless promotions from AirMail. They had a pop-up close to where I live. I took a deep breath and did the same calculation you did when saying No to another Sacai: "I have invested in outerwear that would be suitable for anything the Marfa could go to, so shop your own closet before you buy the Pandora Bracelet of Jackets."

You are stronger than I am. And I love all the dumb add-ons. Like Lego clothes.

I

I could not rest until I solved the riddle of the Marfa Stance brand name, which turns out to be pretty obvious and banal, unlike the clothes:

"Dant tells me that the name 'Marfa' came from her trip to Marfa Texas in 2016, and symbolizes the brand’s commitment to creativity, community and a purist design vision combining style and function, whilst 'Stance' represents the social and environmental responsibilities, brand values and the unique product design and manufacturing practice: 'We quite literally take a stance in the luxury fashion space which so often falls short on ethical and eco ideals.'"
